Gov't Okays Ultra-Religious Town of Matityahu in West Bank

Construction work on 3,500 apartment units begins soon.

The government this week approved a plan to build the ultra-orthodox town of Matityahu which will be located north of Modi’in, in the West Bank.

Construction work on the first 3,500 apartment units is scheduled to begin soon.

The plan was approved of by the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and by outgoing Prime Minister Shimon Peres, but final approval has been delayed for more than a year following a decision by the outgoing Labour government to have the project approved by a special ministerial committee.

This committee has not met for over a year, due to Meretz’s opposition to the plan.
