Gov’t Press Office: PA Has Deployed 4 Times Agreed Number of Police in Hebron

There are 30,000 policemen deployed in the Territories, even though the Oslo agreement allows only 24,000.

The Palestinian Authority has deployed 30,000 policeman in Gaza and the West Bank instead of 24,000 as agreed to in the Oslo agreement. 1,500 policemen are deployed in Hebron, four times the number agreed to in the Hebron agreement. The Government Press Office made these claims in a report that details violations by the Palestinian Authority of the Oslo accords.

At the top of the list is the cessation of cooperation with Israel’s security forces. Other violations include: non coordination of police movement between the different regions; arrest of Israeli citizens without informing the Israeli authorities; construction of the sea port and airport in Gaza; non-disclosure of resolutions adopted by the Palestinian Council; and sidestepping the mechanisms for conflict resolution by using the UN and convening an international conference in Gaza last month.
