"While working as a General Security Service (GSS) agent among right wing activists, Avishai Raviv incited and persuaded those around him to murder Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The claimant has witnesses that Raviv induced and incited many, including the claimant and his brother, Yigal Amir, to assassinate the Prime Minister". This was claimed by Haggai Amir in his NIS 5 million civil suite against Avishai Raviv, which he filed today (Sunday), in the Tel-Aviv District court.
In his claim, Amir says that Raviv gave false witness in his testimony, with the agreement of his GSS operators and the prosecution, when he denied any connection to the GSS.
Haggai Amir claims that Raviv’s denial of the fact of his being a GSS agent, made on the witness stand, prevented Amir from making a claim in his defence that Raviv was an "agent provocateur". Had it been made, he would not have been sentenced to 12 years in prison , but to a much lighter sentence, he argues.
Haggai Amir claims Raviv’s denial of his connection to the GSS prevented Haggai Amir from bringing witnesses to back up his claim that Raviv was the one who instigated the assassination of Rabin, and was at the head of violent demonstrations and extreme right-wing actions, that called for the killing of Rabin, prepared the ground for the killing, incited and encouraged the claimant and his brother, Yigal, to assassinate Rabin, by his declaring Rabin a traitor.
Haggai Amir further claims that he intended calling the then head of the GSS, Karmi Gilon, and other GSS people, as witnesses who would confirm that Avishai Raviv acted from within their service, under their instructions. However, the Court refused to call these witnesses - since investigation in that direction had been blocked by Raviv’s false testimony.
