Hanegbi: Netanyahu Decided to Appoint Avi-Yitzhak Despite Deri's Request

According to Hanegbi, despite the Prime Minister’s decision, the appointment did not take effect because of Dan Avi-Yitzhak’s refusal.

Justice Minister Tzachi Hanegbi said today: "Friends of producer Rafiq Halabi say that the Israel Broadcast Authority has a million tons of concrete proof. I would like to see if they have it, or if it turns out to be 100 grams of fiberglass." Hanegbi was addressing the swearing-in ceremony of new judges at the president’s residence in Jerusalem, when he referred to the investigation of the appointment of Bar-On to the post of attorney general.

In response to questions on the matter, Hanegbi said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to appoint Adv. Dan Avi-Yitzhak to be attorney general four days after MK Arieh Deri requested that Avi-Yitzhak not be appointed. According to Hanegbi, despite the Prime Minister’s decision, the appointment did not take effect because of Avi-Yitzhak’s refusal. Hanegbi added that in his opinion, Deri’s request not to appoint Avi-Yitzhak to the post was somewhat justified since he is Deri’s lawyer.
