Seven teenage girls planned an outing today to the Beer Sheva prison where late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassin, Yigal Amir, is incarcerated.
Two of the girls are even expected to propose marriage to Amir in honour of Tu B’av, the Jewish version of Valentine’s Day. Anat, an 18-year-old from the Tel Aviv area, was interviewed Monday morning on IDF Radio’s "Good Morning, Israel" program. She stated that she chose today for the visit to Amir because "Tu B’Av is a good day for matchmaking". According to the girl, she is interested in "proposing marriage to Amir, or at least offering him the opportunity to meet his future life partner."
Anat complained about the "sub-human" conditions under which Amir is being held. She stated that these conditions make it difficult for him to find a life partner. "Yigal Amir, like any prisoner in Israel deserves humane conditions including the option of marriage. I just don’t think it is right to hold him in complete isolation."
Anat told IDF Radio that she condemns violence. "I’m not here to show solidarity with the assassination of Prime Minister Rabin but with the conditions of Amir’s incarceration."
The girl claimed not to believe that Yigal Amir assassinated Prime minister Rabin. "I’m not at all sure of that. Only G-d can tell me."
