The Pentagon: The sale is part of the effort to guarantee Israeli military superiority in the Middle East.
The Pentagon has informed Congress of its intention to sell Israel 15 Black Hawk helicopters and 34 helicopter engines for a total of $200 million. The troop carrying helicopters are produced by the Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies and the engines are produced by General Electric.
Reportedly, the helicopters are being sold as part of the Washington’s effort to guarantee Israeli military superiority in the Middle East. According to the Pentagon announcement: "The sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States, by means of aid to a friendly country that was, and continues to be, an important source of stability and economic growth for the Middle East".
