Cisco, one of the largest computer companies in the world, will include SurfinGate protection software, produced by Israeli start-up Finjan, in its Firewall products. Cisco’s Firewall protects organizations’ computers from intrusion via the Internet, but is not capable of blocking a "mobile code", which may find its way to the computer during Web surfing and cause malfunctions and other kinds of problems.
The "mobile code" can plant itself in networks’ work stations, spy for information, destroy data or cause other damage, without network operators knowing of its presence and actions.
The integration of SurfinGate into Firewall systems will give Cisco systems protection capability against damaging Internet applications. This software can also detect "mobile code" activities, decide if it is damaging or suspicious and immediately stop its operation.
In 1997, Cisco came second in the world Firewall market, after Check Point of Israel, with 19% of the market and sales of $65.7 million. The Firewall market volume in 1997 stood at $357 million; is expected to reach $636.2 million this year, and next year - around $1 billion.
