Milo: Roundup 12 MK’s to Split Likud, Replace Netanyahu

Likud Knesset faction chairman Meir Sheetrit, announced that, in spite of decision of the party court banning the setting up of committee to look into the events at the Likud conference, he intends to convene the faction as planned and set up an examining committee.

The political storm from the Likud conference continues, and the political system is already responding to news of political organising aimed at removing Benjamin Netanyahu from his post as Prime Minister.

Tel-Aviv Mayor Roni Milo said in an interview today on Army Radio, that he is working to make a real change in the leadership of the Likud. Milo stated that he has partners in this move, but refused to name them. Milo said he wanted to bring together 12 Likud Knesset members to break away as the Likud faction. He further stated that the move was not to allow Ehud Barak to become prime minister, but to replace the leadership of the Likud, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He again stated that he believes there will shortly be a dramatic change in Israel's political set-up.

Likud Knesset faction chairman Meir Sheetrit announced that, in spite of decision of the party court banning the setting up of a committee to look into the events at the Likud conference, he intends to assemble the faction as planned and set up an examining committee. He maintains that the Likud party court did not summon him, and decided without getting the other side’s view. He believes that the Likud court has no jurisdiction in this matter.
