Movenpick To Set Up 10 Restaurants in Israel

Initial investment will be $50 million. The Swiss hotel-restaurant chain has an annual turnover of 950 million Swiss Francs. The Israeli licensees are Nitzba, the properties division of the Egged bus cooperative, together with business-woman Shari Arison-Dorfman.

Moevenpick, a world leader in the restaurant-hotel field, will establish a chain of Marche Moevenpick restaurants in Israel. Ten roadside restaurants will be set up over the next five years, at an investment of some $50 million.

The first restaurant will open in October 1996, at the entrance to Kibbutz Dovrat in the lower Galilee.

Moevenpick’s restaurants are based on a concept, planned a decade ago in Switzerland, and today considered an international success story. The chain operates in Switzerland, England, Canada, Italy, Germany and the Far East, in Hong Kong, Indonesia and Korea.

Movenpick Hotels International (MHI) division currently comprises 30 operations in Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and China. New projects are being realized in the Czech Republic (Prague) and Jordan (Petra).

This marks the first time Movenpick will open Marche Moevenpick restaurants in the Middle East. The Israeli license was awarded to Shargad Orchanim, a partnership comprised of Nitzba, the properties division of the Egged bus cooperative, and business-woman Shari Arison-Dorfman, daughter of Carnival Cruises’ Ted Arison.

At Marche restaurants the selection of dishes are prepared at various stands while guests watch, using fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and other materials. The Marche concept is of a French open market, and the restaurant spreads out over an entire hall, decorated in various styles, from bistro to colonial.
