US marketing research firm Nielsen has acquired a majority share in Israeli firm Market Share, which will operate, effective immediately, as Nielsen’s Israeli branch. Market Share’s name will be changed to Nielsen Israel, and will be managed by Market Share founder Moshe Stultz, who will remain a shareholder in the company.
The agreement is neither a merger nor a cooperative agreement but an acquisition. The volume of the transaction is not yet known.
AC Nielsen is a global leader in delivering market research, information and analysis to the consumer products and service industries. The company offers services in over 90 countries and posted 1995 revenues of $1.3 billion.
Founded in 1994, Market Share is a privately owned company, providing media and consultancy services in consumer retailing. The company created and operated the first ongoing consumer panel in Israel, numbering 1,800 households to date. At the same time, the company operates a retail data collection system for grocery stores, a television viewer and newspaper reader tracking system, and prepares information for retail chain concerning discount sales.
