The chip will be designed by TRAC, and manufactured by Tower Semiconductor in Migdal Ha’emek.
Tower Semiconductor and RDT have set up a design center for complex components. The center will be part of the TRAC corporation. The first design order was recently received from Israeli start up PowerCom which is developing an automatic meter reader and electricity monitor.
The chip will be designed by TRAC, and manufactured by Tower Semiconductor in Migdal Ha’emek. PowerCom is affiliated with the DSI group and has developed systems for reading electricity meters via the electricity network. The new chip will operate a load management and monitoring system, and will automatically record household electric usage via a special meter.
The systems can also detect systematic electric power theft. The system, now in development, is slated for export in the first stage to markets in the Far East and South America where electric power theft is rampant. Inclusion of most advanced functions in one component will substantially lower the price of meters, and systems in general.
