RSL Electronics: From Jet Engines to Early Breast Cancer Detection

  • Monitoring and control systems for aircraft.

  • Ground support systems for airborne systems including a variety of both mobile and stationary equipment and automatic inspection.

  • Braking systems for F-16 aircraft.

    Activities in the civilian market are as follows:

    1. Medicine: Breast cancer diagnosis - At the end of 1993, the company began investing in Trans-scan R&D Ltd, which is developing an innovative device for detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. The investment was made in stages. The device is currently undergoing clinical testing in Israel and abroad and will be submitted for US Food and Drug Administration approval by the end of 1997.

    2. The company holds 50% of Medical Electronic systems, which has developed a device to test sperm quality.

    The company closed the first half of 1997 on NIS 1.214 million in profits, compared to a loss of NIS 3.889 million in the same period last year. The profit represents 14.8% of sales turnover. If the company posts identical financial reports in upcoming quarters to those of Q2 the company is trading at a p/e of 9.5. After deducting cash assets from company value, the p/e ratio is 6.85.
