Avraham Ravitz, Chairman of the Knesset Finance Committee threatened Minister of Finance Ya’akov Ne’eman: "If he insists on proceeding unilaterally, he won’t be minister for long".
Avraham Ravitz, Chairman of the Knesset Finance Committee reacted vigorously to plans by Minister of Finance Ya’akov Ne’eman to induct Yeshiva students into the work force. In the first interview from Argentina, Ravitz warned Ne’eman not to take any such action without consulting the religious parties. If not, Ravitz warned, Ne’eman was jeopardizing his seat in the government.
In an interview with Galei Zahal (IDF radio station), Ravitz stated that such a plan would not pass the Knesset Finance committee. "What, has he gone crazy? I hereby declare most solemnly: any change in the budget or in agreements reached between the various coalition partners, including the religious parties, must be mutual, or it will not pass"
Ravitz asked Ne’eman to refrain from acting recklessly, and to remember that the religious parties help comprise the coalition. "If he insists on proceeding unilaterally, he won’t be minister for long".
