The official newspaper "A-Thawra" said that all hopes pinned on the US campaign to save the peace process had been dashed.
"The Israel government welcomed Albright with a series of stubborn positions and provocative conditions which undermined her trip to the region from the start, and she said farewell to the US Secretary of State with a murderous attack in South Lebanon, intended to impose her conditions both on Syria and Lebanon," wrote a commentator in the ruling party’s organ "Al-Baath".
The official newspaper "A-Thawra" said that all hopes pinned on the US campaign to save the peace process had been dashed. "Unfortunately, the US Secretary of State gained nothing from her trip and did not succeed in extracting anything from the Israeli government, which drove the peace process into a dead end and destroyed all hope of bringing security an stability to the region," the newspaper said.
