The US pharmaceuticals firm Eli Lilly, one of the five biggest firms in the United States and one of the 12 biggest in the world, has set up a subsidiary by the name of Eli Lilly Israel Ltd., which will operate independently in Israel in marketing, registration, clinical research and preparation of files for the approval of the Ministry of Health.
Eli Lilly, which engages in the manufacture of ethical drugs of its own development, is known for drugs such as Prozac, insulin-based medication, cancer treatment drugs etc. The Israeli subsidiary was formed as part of the company’s expansion strategy, as pursued in other western states.
For the past 40 years, Eli Lilly has been represented in all fields by the Luxembourg company. With the formation of the subsidiary, Luxembourg will continue to serve as the importer and distributor of the company’s products in Israel.
The past year has revealed a conspicuous trend towards opening independent offices. International companies such as Merck and Johnson & Johnson have also opened independent offices in Israel, even though they were represented by Israeli firms.
