The $50 million diverted to Jordan will be returned to Israel through the financing of joint projects with US concerns.
US sources told "Globes" that despite funding of the Jordanian aid package with money slated for Israel and Egypt, there will be no erosion of US aid to Israel.
The sources noted the US would continue to transfer to Israel the usual $3 billion per year. Israel undertook to transfer $50 million to Jordan for the next five years. At the same time, Washington undertook to raise funding for joint defense projects with Israel by $50 million. This funding is also scheduled to continue 5 years.
Yesterday, Washington formally announced the Jordanian aid fund. The fund will have an annual budget of $100 million. Half will come from Egypt’s annual aid package, and half will be transferred by the Israeli government according to a special arrangement.
