The price of an international call will be 4 cents per minute, compared to $2 via the
regular telephone network.
The Israeli software company VocalTec announced the development of
new technology called Telephone Gateway(TM) Internet Phone, which makes
it possible to place a phone call to any phone from any phone in the world,
without the need to be connected to the Internet.
The user may call, using a local service provider, from a regular
telephone to another user, or through his direct connection to VocalTec's
Internet-phone software. The average cost of an international call today is $2
per minute, whereas the average cost of an international call via the Internet
will be 4 cents.
VocalTec stated that it will be possible to call cellular phones through the
new system, and the cost of the call will depend on the charges of the cellular
service provider called.
