Yigal Amir Gets 5 More Years in Prison, Brother Hagai 7, For Conspiracy in Rabin's Assassination

The Tel Aviv District Court sentenced another accomplice, Dror Adani, to 7 years imprisonment. Yigal Amir: I'm proud of what I did.

The Tel Aviv District Court today sentenced Hagai Amir to 12 years in prison for conspiring with his brother, the convicted Yigal Amir, in the assassination of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Yigal Amir was given 5 years in addition to the life sentence plus six years he is already serving. Dror Adani, who planned the murder with Hagai and Yigal Amir, was sentenced by the court to seven years in prison.

Yigal Amir's attorney, Shmuel Fleishman, expressed satisfaction over the court's sentence. When the Amir brothers were allowed their turn to speak in court, Yigal Amir said, "I am proud of what I did. If I could do it again, I’d repeat my actions."

The prosecutor had asked the court to impose a sentence of 29 years in prison on Yigal Amir, and more than 20 years imprisonment on Hagai Amir and Dror Adani.
