The Congressional report on Chinese spying in the US indicates Israeli involvement in the transfer of American military technologies to China.
According to the report, which has been drawn up by a special House of Representatives committee, Israel has transferred to China a considerable amount of American military technology in the 1990s.
The technology in question includes avionics systems and guidance systems for combat aircraft and missiles that have been given to Israel under arms deals or the development of join projects. Israel re-exported these technologies to China despite an American ban on re-exporting such technologies without Washington’s approval.
According to the report, there is evidence that Israel has provided China with Cruise missile and ground-to-air missile technologies.
According to previous American publications, Israel sought to cover the losses incurred by the discontinuation of the Lavi project by selling Lavi technologies to China. A Defense News report says that American experts identified American technology elements in a new Chinese combat aircraft allegedly developed with Israel’s assistance.
In an interview with "Globes", Dov Zakheim, Under Defense Secretary for Planning and Resources in the Reagan Administration, said, "The major problem is that allegations against Israel have been heard for years, ... be they allegations of American technology sales by Israel on one year, or allegations of military cooperation with South Africa on another year, or allegations of stealing equipment secrets from American plants on a third year, or allegations of spying against the US on a fourth year. Every year something else crops up."
