Symantec, one of the world’s largest anti-virus software manufacturers, that markets the popular Norton Anti-Virus program, is developing a special protection kit for Check Point’s Firewall, aimed at improving its ability to withstand aggressive, new generation viruses.
Michael Log, head of the anti-virus activity in Symantec, said the product is part of a new program aimed at providing a comprehensive, automatic protection solution for the new generation of viruses.
"The new program is called Digital Immune Center. We acquired part of the IBM and Intel anti-virus software packages that serve as the basis for creating a comprehensive anti-virus environment. The system will identify viruses through their generic behavior patterns, will send them via the Internet to our Californian program support center, where an automatic protection program will be created, and sent to the harmed organization by e-mail."
According to Log, the initial version will be put on the market toward year-end, and the comprehensive immunity kit as a whole will be marketed as from the year 2000. The company hopes to sign agreements with as many organizations as possible for automatic repair, as "this is the best way to halt the new generation viruses."
