International computer corporation Data General has decided to go unto operation in Israel and to set up a representative office here. Daniel Daniel, who until recently served as manager of the telecommunications sector in Sun Microsystems Israel, has been appointed general manager. Hitherto, Data General operated in Israel via TEAM, which specialises in computerisation solutions for the business sector. Customers in Israel include the IDF, the Phoenix insurance company, Algotec and others. The revenues of Data General International amounted in 1998 to $1.5 billion.
According to Daniel, the company’s entry into activity in Israel points to the great potential of the Israeli high-tech market. "We aim to expand our market share in Israel, and to offer mainly storage solutions to large organisations in the diverse range of fields of activity of the Israeli economy, such as the health, transport and energy systems, and also equipment suppliers in the high-tech fields", he said.
Daniel noted that this was also an opportunity for Israeli companies to take part in Data General projects worldwide. Next week, senior executives of Data General International are expected to visit Israel on the occasion of the company’s inauguration in Israel.
