Pele-Phone to Invest $230 Mln Expanding CDMA Network in 2000

Pele-Phone's digital network has 350,000 subscribers. In its present state, it can handle another 400,000 subscribers.

Pele-Phone will invest $230 million in expanding its CDMA digital network in 2000, which will fill 50% of the company's frequencies and enable it to handle 800,000 subscribers.

"Globes" has learned that the company's engineering division has demanded a budget of $600 million for 2000, but the board of directors' managing committee has approved only $230 million. The company's CDMA network currently has 650 transmitting-receiving sites, compared with less than 600 for the analog network.

Pele-Phone's digital network has 350,000 subscribers. In its present state, it can handle another 400,000 subscribers.

In response, a Pele-Phone spokesman said, "Pele-Phone plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in the company's communications networks in 2000, including NEXT and CDMA. The exact investment budget has not yet been determined."
