The banks will close their branches on Friday and Sunday, as part of the measures for coping with Y2K problems. In order to cope with the expected customer overload prior to the closure, some banks will extend their branches’ opening hours.

Cash machines will operate throughout the two days of bank closure, and Bank of Israel sources said that the Bank was preparing to inject large amounts of cash into the system on those days. The large banks’ direct banking services, including services offered via the Internet and the telephone, will operate throughout the weekend.
