Zoran Corporation (Nasdaq:ZRAN), a leading provider of integrated circuits (ICs) and embedded software for digital video and audio applications enabled by compression, announced today that Amoisonic Electronics Co., Ltd., one of China's largest home video and audio OEMs, and Zoran Corporation will partner to provide leading solutions for the DVD and SVCD markets in the next millennium.
Zoran's unsurpassed compression technology combined with Amoisonic's superior systems and manufacturing expertise have established a front running position in China's digital consumer market. As a part of the announced long-term collaboration, Amoisonic and Zoran will establish a joint development lab focused on digital A/V technologies and products for the China market. This partnership elevates the Zoran/Amoisonic relationship to the next level, and demonstrates the commitment of both companies to work together to provide outstanding solutions for the DVD, SVCD and A/V receiver markets.
Since the inception of VCD and SVCD, over 50 million digital video players have been sold in China. According to industry analysts, the popularity of DVD in China is increasing, and the transition to this new format is expected to bring sales of 6 million DVD players this year in China. In addition, market research shows that Dolby Digital and DTS based A/V receivers will gain significant market momentum. The Amoisonic and Zoran partnership has already resulted in several notable achievements. Using Zoran ICs, Amoisonic introduced the first Dolby Digital certified A/V Receiver (DH9085) and the first Virtual Dolby(TM) certified SVCD player (SVD-777) in China. These products and the new Amoisonic DVD-8156, which is based on Zoran DVD technology, are examples of the high quality, state-of-the-art models resulting from Amoisonic's and Zoran's collaborative efforts.
