Novell Makes Investment in Business Layers To Develop Directory-based eProvisioning Solutions

Business Layers, a provider of directory-based software solutions, today announced that Novell Ventures, the venture capital arm of Novell (NASDAQ:NOVL - news), has made an investment in the company. Details of the private round of financing were not disclosed.

``Novell's support will help position us as leaders in the eProvisioning space,'' said Izhar Shay, Business Layers' President and CEO. ``Organizations are beginning to realize that they need to adopt a business-driven directory approach if they are to keep pace with the rate of change in the Internet Age. Business Layers is uniquely suited to foster the adoption of directories to reach this goal''

``Business Layers' approach to business-driven IT automation is one that builds upon and leverages the power of Novell Directory Services,'' said Carl Ledbetter, Novell senior vice president for business and corporate development. ``Business Layers demonstrates the critical role of Net Services infrastructure in enabling new applications--in this case, a family of breakthrough solutions that bring dramatic improvements in efficiency to the IT provisioning process.''

By leveraging directory services, Business Layers' eProvisionware(TM) products are able to access an organization's entire infrastructure and drive the allocation of IT resources and services according to business requirements. The initial release of eProvisionware addresses the business challenge of handling employee change management effectively, by streamlining and automating the provisioning of digital resources (eProvisioning) associated with employee changes. By connecting ``business to IT'' through ``eProvisioning'', e-Business organizations can react more quickly to business challenges while improving overall productivity and gaining a significant competitive edge.

Industry experts predict universal directories will continue to supplant today's systems of disparate directories within the enterprise. By 2003, there will be more than 13 million universal directory servers in use, reaching virtually all network-connected workstations. Business Layers leverages directory services to efficiently provision digital resources across an ever-changing corporate landscape.
