Box Interactive, G-Sites Setting Up Bezeq's ADSL Portal

The Portal, Multi-Speed, will serve as entry screen for occasional linkup to Internet.

Site builders Box Interactive and G-Sites, which have recently merged into a single company, are setting up Bezeq's ADSL service portal. The construction of the portal, to be called Multi-Speed, will be completed in a few days. "Globes" has learnt that the portal will serve as an entry screen, and that the Ministry of Communications would not allow Bezeq to set up a portal that includes content.

Customers wishing to link up to the Internet without signing an agreement with one of the Internet service providers, will be able to choose on the portal the company through which they want to surf the Internet.

The preliminary results of Bezeq's ADSL test indicate that the average surfing speed among the 500 participants in the test is 4.5 Mbps.

Bezeq's ADSL service will offer broadband Internet connectivity at up to 8 Mbps over pair of copper wire infrastructure that already exists in households. The test involves linkup through high-speed modems manufactured by Israeli companies Orckit and ECI and French company Alcatel. The tender for provision of modems, for which the companies are bidding, has not yet been closed.

Bezeq director general Ilan Biran has appointed Danny Zelinger, head of system integration in the company's engineering division, as manager of the ADSL project. The project is expected to reach NIS 300 million this year.
