Arbel: Weizman Unlikely to be Indicted

The investigation in the Weizman-Saroussi affair is shortly due to be concluded.

State Attorney Edna Arbel gave as her opinion today that the Weizman-Saroussi affair will not lead to an indictment against Israeli President Ezer Weizman. The investigation is due to be concluded in the next few days.

In an interview with "Galei Zahal" (IDF radio) Arbel said that the investigation to date had not produced sufficient evidence for bringing an indictment. "On the basis of the material I have seen so far, I am still not seeing an indictment", she added. Arbel said she had heard from Major General Yossi Sadbon, head of the Police Investigations Division, that the investigation is due to be concluded in the next few days.

Weizman himself said, today, that in his opinion, a legislative amendment would be in place on the subject, and that clear principles should be established.

Arbel did not say whether the State Attorney's Office would publish a summarising report, relating also to the public aspects of the affair.
