Exent, a leading developer of Applications-on-Demand (AoD) technology that delivers computer software programs over IP networks, unveiled its flagship product, the EXEtender at the Milia 2000 conference this week. With this software, any executable (.EXE) application can be delivered securely over the Web or an enterprise network for access on-demand by licensed users.
With Exent's EXEtender technology, service providers can now offer a flexible and efficient method to deliver Applications-on-Demand, such as business productivity software, entertainment, education, training applications, games and more.
Today Exent's technology is being deployed by Sweden's largest telecommunications group, Telia, and Asia's most advanced communications providers, Singapore Telecommunications. Both companies have performed marketing and technology trials with the platform and have decided that Exent has the best solution for offering Applications-on-Demand. The companies will offer entertainment and edutainment software titles to their customers.
"Our content delivery technology is important for high-speed networks because it accelerates demand for broadband services," said Zvi Levgoren, CEO of Exent Technologies. "For the first time, companies can license, distribute and integrate any application into their own service. We feel this will dramatically drive new traffic to broadband portals and generate new revenue for online service providers for business or consumer applications."
Using Exent's technology, software applications are securely "streamed" to authorized end users. The EXEtender can be used with any application and requires no modification to the software or source code. It features a click-and-play client plug-in that works with any conventional HTML Web browser such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft's Internet Explorer. The user does not need to install or download the actual application to his PC.
Exent's EXEtender solution has a built-in dual layer security algorithm to ensure that all application software titles remain copy-protected. Exent's technology optimizes performance, maximizing network throughput by compressing data into a 512Kbps bandwidth stream.
The technology utilizes caching and read-ahead for reliable delivery. The system currently runs on any Windows PC platform, and future versions will support game consoles, set-top boxes, Windows CE and Linux.
Exent also has a team of experienced engineers and integrators to facilitate deployment of their application-on-demand technology.
