The two companies will upgrade 31 F5 aircraft of US Northrop Grumman manufacture that have been operating in Thailand since the eighties.
The Thai government announced last night that a consortium of Israeli defence industries had won the tender for the upgrade of F5 fighter planes for the Thai Air Force. Project volume is $74 million (2.8 billion baht). Elbit will be the principal contractor for the project, and Israel Aircraft Industries, through its Lahav upgrade plant, will be secondary contractor.
The project will consist of upgrading 31 obsolescent F5s manufactured by the US Northrop Grumman concern, which have been operating in Thailand since the early 1980s.
There will be two separate contracts: the first in a volume of $69 million, of which IAI will execute 30%. The second in a volume of $5 million, in which IAI's Malam plant will supply Ehud debriefing command and control systems.
