Rabin Center Construction Approved

The national building and planning committee last week approved the setting up of the Yitzhak Rabin Center in Ramat Aviv on a 30 dunam (7.5 acres) plot, south-east of the Eretz Yisrael Museum.

The center was designed by architectural firm Moshe Safdie. The structure will be 12,000 sq.m., plus a 5,000 sq.m. parking lot, and will be surrounded by gardens and greenery.

The non-profit organization for the setting up of the Yitzhak Rabin Center for Israel Studies said that the center would be set up in Tel Aviv, mainly since it was the place where he was assassinated. The actual site was chosen, among other reasons, due to its closeness to major highways (Ayalon and Rokah Boulevard), Tel Aviv University, Palmah House and the Diaspora Museum.

The center will include a museum on the life of the late Yitzhak Rabin, an archive, library, educational center and administrative department.
