Israel, EU Association Agreement Takes Effect Today

Among other things, the agreement will facilitate cooperation in the fields of audio-visual, energy, standards, financial services, information infrastructures, telecommunications, transportation, and tourism.

The association agreement between Israel and the European Union (EU) took effect today. The agreement was approved by the European Parliament, the Knesset, and the legislatures of the 15 EU countries over the past few months.

The association agreement upgrades relations between Israel and the EU, and enlarges the scope of possible cooperation between Israel and the EU countries. Among other things, the agreement will facilitate cooperation in the fields of audio-visual, energy, standards, financial services, information infrastructures, telecommunications, transportation, and tourism.

The agreement completes a series of previous agreements between Israel and the EU, including the agreement for Israel's participation in the EU's R&D program, the agreement concerning procurement for communications infrastructures ventures, and the agreement for government procurement.
