Satellite broadcasting company YES has breached its trial license terms by linking up more than 3,000 subscribers to its trial broadcasts, although it was permitted to link up only 1,000.
YES's trial license expires today, and "Globes" has learnt that Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Board chairman Dorit Inbar has demanded that YES furnish clarifications before its license is extended.
It has further been learnt that YES has not yet filed an application with the Ministry of Communications for category permits for the terminal equipment it will use, including dish satellites, receivers and digital converters.
The Ministry of Communications' category permit procedure is very protracted, and YES will not be able to operate without permits. A senior Ministry of Communications official told "Globes" that YES acted against the regulations in installing tens of thousands of satellite dishes, and that the Ministry was not planning to automatically issue backdated permits.
Inbar and YES exchanged strongly worded letters in recent days, in which YES was requested to disclose accurate figures on its operations.
YES said in response that differences over technical matters have broken out with the Board, and that they would be settled in the coming days.
