YES general manager Eitan Rov rejects criticism of the price, claiming that surveys the company conducted show that the consumer wants first and foremost freedom of choice and variety.
A basic package of twenty channels, including channels 1, 2, CNN, Sky, Hallmark, BBC World, BBC Prime, Eurosport and a pay-on-view service, will cost NIS 59 a month at the YES satellite company. The price of a similar package to the one offered by cable will cost NIS 129, compared with NIS 159 for cable subscribers.
The company said today that new subscribers will be offered a super-wide package, which will include a receiver and all the basic packages: cable, entertainment, movies, music and erotica, for NIS 129 a month for two months.
Satellite and Cable Broadcasting Council chairman Dorit Inbar said that the Council chose not to intervene in the prices, unless they were discriminatory and misleading. "Competition must be allowed to run its course," Inbar said.
