Israeli Aitech Systems May Supply Cockpit Upgrade Systems for US Space Shuttle

This would be in addition to an agreement to supply systems for the shuttles' black box, worth $2.5 million.

The Herzliya-based company Aitech Systems is holding contacts with the makers of the space shuttle, Boeing Reusable Space Systems and United Space Alliance to supply systems to upgrade the shuttles' cockpits. This would be in addition to supplying electronic systems for the shuttles' black boxes.

The electronic systems Aitech Systems will supply will be incorporated in the new digital black box installed in the shuttles. The contract is worth $2.5 million.

The installment of black boxes is part of the project to up upgrade the fleet of three shuttles currently being operated by NASA. The black box serves as a general database for the shuttle.

Boeing recently honored Aitech Systems as an outstanding subcontractor, an honor given to only two other US companies. Aitech Systems was chosen from among 100 subcontractors and suppliers of Boeing's shuttle program. The criteria for the award included product quality, technical performance and meeting timetables and costs.

Boeing stated, "The teamwork demonstrated by the company during its work was a crucial factor in its choice."
