Palestinian businessmen: Arab banks withdrawing money from Palestinian Authority

The head of the association of Palestinian businessmen criticized senior Palestinian officials that continue to deposit millions of dollars in Israeli banks.

Palestinian businessmen yesterday convened in Gaza and called on Egypt and Jordan to discontinue all commercial ties with Israel. The businessmen harshly criticized Arab banks with branches in the Palestinian Authority (PA), arguing that these banks disregard the plight of ordinary Palestinians living under Intifada conditions.

The businessmen said that Arab banks started transferring abroad funds deposited by top customers - senior PA officials and big-time businessmen – out of fear that the Palestinian economy might collapse.

Mahmoud al-Fara, who heads the association of Palestinian businessmen, criticized senior Palestinian officials and Arabs residing in various Arab countries who continue to deposit millions of dollars in Israeli banks. He urged them to withdraw all these funds.
