The decision was approved this week by the Israel Land Council.
Jezreel Valley regional council chairman Eitan Broshi last week said that 2,000 new residential units will be constructed this year in Jezreel Valley community settlements, kibbutzim and moshavim, as a result of a government decision to significantly lower land prices in the region. The decision was approved this week by the Israel Land Council.
Broshi said Minister of Finance Avraham Shochat and Israel Land Administration heads made the decision to enable a significant development boom in the Valley, since expansion would provide housing solutions to workers at various levels in the various industrial plants, particularly in Migdal Ha’Emek and the Sagi 2000 industrial park area.
New neighborhoods will be built in over seven settlements, including Shimsheet, Ahuzat Barak, Alonim (Hasollelim), Adi, Hanaton, Yifat and Merhavia. Marketing and expansion has already begun. For example, 90 houses have already been sold at Kibbutz Alonim, and a new 140 house neighborhood at Kibbutz Merhavia is now being marketed. 510 families will join Shimsheet, and 150 will join Ahuzat Barak.
