Business Data: B2C activity in Israel to double in 2001 to $120 mln

Business Data estimates that B2C activity in Israel tripled in 2000. The assessment was made against the backdrop of cutbacks in Israeli e-commerce companies.

A Business Data Israel (BDI) overview of B2C activity in Israel shows an estimated $60 million in 2000, triple the 1999 volume of $20 million. BDI specializes in providing business, economic and marketing data on Israel and worldwide. The company estimates that if the trend for e-commerce growth continues, B2C activity is forecast to double this year to $120 million.

These positive trends and data were published against the backdrop of bankruptcies and cutbacks in Israeli e-commerce companies and market pessimism over the growth potential for e-commerce in Israel.

The BDI data show that the number of Israelis purchasing products and services over the Internet is steadily rising. For example, in July the percentage was 2.4%, in August – 3.2% and in September – 3.8%.

The assessment is that e-commerce will continue to grow in the coming years, based on the improvement in information security solutions, products offered and the number of people connected to the Internet (among other reasons, due to the transition to high-speed Internet). The assessment is also based on changes in consumer habits and improvement in the level of service.
