Comverse SMS solution selected by Spanish Airtel Movil

Airtel Movil is the second mobile operator in Spain and is part of the Vodafone Group. No value was disclosed.

Comverse (Nasdaq: CMVT) today announced the selection of its Intelligent Short Message Service Center (ISMSC) by Airtel Movil, the second mobile operator in Spain and part of the Vodafone Group. No value was disclosed.

The Vodafone Group covers over 83 million subscribers throughout the world in 5 continents and 29 countries. Comverse said that Airtel would implement its next generation short message service solution, which is based on a distributed ISMSC architecture to handle the growing SMS demands and to support multiple SMS-based data services. ISMSC is a short message service center that provides scalable capacity and open connectivity to the web and SMS-based applications.

Airtel Switching Manager Jose Ignacio Casado said, “Thanks to the highly scalable nature of Comverse's SMS solution, we can meet the rapidly growing SMS demand and easily expand capacity to meet future requirements. As a result, we are confident that SMS services will strengthen subscriber satisfaction and generate significant revenues for Airtel well into the future.”

Comverse EMEA vice president and general manager Gadi Bahat said, “Leading mobile operators such as Airtel look to Comverse to help them implement and grow their SMS services, achieving rapid returns in the short run, while protecting investments in the long run.”

Comverse develops and supplies software and systems enabling network-based communications services. Comverse shares closed yesterday in New York at $66.88.
