The deal is worth $18 mln.
Elbit Systems (Nasdaq: ESLTF) signed an $18 million contract to supply the Italian Air Force with Whizzard smart munitions kits. Elbit Systems will supply Italy with laser guided Lizard bombs over three years. The Lizard is used for strikes against fixed ground targets.
Elbit Systems said the contract, "follows the success of the earlier Opher autonomous guided weapon system, which is designed to strike at mobile targets using thermal imaging."
The Italian Army and Air Force have also procured laser designators and thermal imaging systems from Elbit Systems' subsidiary, El-Op Electro-Optics Industries, for $5 million.
