Ramat HaGolan Winery and Kibbutz Yiron will invest $5 million in setting up a new winery in Upper Galilee, Ramat Hagolan Winery CEO Shalom Blyer said today.

Blyer added that the construction of the new Galil Mountain Winery near Kibbutz Yiron would start at the end of the summer and be completed just before the 2002 harvest season.

Galil Mountain Winery’s wines are currently made with a separate system, which is temporarily based at Ramat HaGolan Winery.

Galil Mountain Winery’s first wines, including Galil Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, Galil Mountain Merlot and Galil Mountain Chardonnais, were unveiled today.

Blyer said that the new winery would initially employ ten workers. He added that the partners in the winery are Ramat HaGolan Winery, which has a two-thirds stake, and Kibbutz Yiron, with a one-third stake.

The winery’s vineyards are at Kibbutz Malkiya, Kibbutz Yiftach, Kibbutz Yiron, Kibbutz Misgav-Am, and Moshav Meron.

Blyer said that Ramat HaGolan Winery would market and distribute the wines in Israel and abroad, and that Galil Mountain Winery is planning to export 30% of its wines to Europe and the US.
