The Nielsen Net-Rating Israel survey for June says the Hebrew daily ''Yediot Ahronot'' website "Ynet" is the most popular Israeli news website among home surfers. The survey states 186,497 individuals entered Ynet in June. The website of Hebrew daily "Ha'aretz" (www.haaretz.co.il) was ranked second, with 142,699 readers. The website of Hebrew daily "Ma’ariv'' (www.maariv.co.il,) was ranked third, with 91,321 visitors, and CNN.com, which was accessed by some 66,668 Israelis, was ranked fourth.
Ynet also led in the categories of average time online, with 16 minutes, and the average number of pages viewed, with 23. Ynet was followed by Ma’ariv, with 14 minutes and 14 pages, and Ha'aretz, with 11 minutes and 11 pages.
Ynet also attracted the highest loyalty among home surfers, with an average of four visits per month per user. A breakdown of the survey data by gender showed that 64% of Israeli surfers of news sites were men. CNN.com had the highest percentage of women surfers, at 42%.
The breakdown by age showed surfers at "Ha'aretz" and "Ma'ariv" were older, with 27% aged 35-49. Ynet was most popular with Israelis between the ages of 25-34, who constituted 26% of all surfers on the site.
Nielsen Net-Rating Israel sampled 3,000 surfers in Israel, who go online from home. The survey stated that 36% of Israel’s population – 1,934,610 people – can access the Internet from their homes.
