Hydro-Quebec of Canada selects RAD equipment for network upgrade project

Hydro-Quebec will purchase RAD equipment over the next 3 years. The value of the agreement was not disclosed.

Communications equipment supplier RAD Data Communications announced today that Hydro-Quebec - one the largest electric power utilities in North America - had agreed purchase RAD equipment over the next 3 years. The value of the agreement was not disclosed.

Through authorized RAD reseller Comlink Systems, Hydro-Quebec will purchase fiber optic solutions from RAD's Megaplex, Kilomux, and DXC product families. RAD said its equipment would be a key component in a network-wide upgrade project to take place at over 300 sites in the Hydro-Quebec telecommunications network.

RAD's equipment will be integrated into the Hydro-Quebec network for a variety of applications, including tele-protection and automation. This network will also be used to transport telephony, data and Internet traffic to the power plants, substations and offices in isolated regions throughout the province.

Hydro-Quebec Director of Planning and Installation of technological infrastructure Pierre Chenevert said, "We put RAD's products through extensive evaluation testing, and they performed flawlessly while exceeding our stringent quality and reliability requirements."

RAD Data Communications is a member of the $600 million RAD Group, which focuses on networking and internetworking product and system solutions.
