US cos interested in Israel's MS-Tech explosives sniffer

The two interested companies are Barringer Technologies and Ion Track Instruments.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that two US defense companies are interested in concluding a partnership with Israeli MS-Tech, which has developed a revolutionary explosives sniffer device.

MS-Tech developed the Mini-Nose for Detection with financing from the US Department of Defense and the Ministry of Defense, which each provided 40% of the funding. MS-Tech founder president Moshe Shalom financed the remaining 20% of the $4 million project.

MS-Tech is now negotiating with Barringer Technologies of New Jersey, which develops explosives and drug detection systems. The company has delivered 1,500 systems to 58 countries to date. 75 of the systems operate at airports worldwide. The company’s sales in 2000 were $27.6 million, 39% more than a year earlier.

The second company with which MS-Tech is negotiating is Ion Track Instruments, which also develops explosives detection systems, as well as security systems for the perimeter of jails. The company's systems have been approved by the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), and the company's products have been acquired by the US Army and National Guard.
