Amdocs wins seven-year billing contract with Nextel

Under the deal, Amdocs will provide US-based Nextel Partners with a comprehensive customer care and billing system, data center services and application support. The value of the agreement was not disclosed.

Amdocs (NYSE: DOX) today announced a seven-year systems and services agreement with US-based wireless communications company Nextel Partners (Nasdaq: NXTP). Under the deal, Amdocs will provide Nextel with a comprehensive customer care and billing system, data center services and application support. The value of the agreement was not disclosed.

Amdocs says the customer care and billing system, which is based on its Ensemble platform, will help increase efficiencies for Nextel Partners' integrated digital voice and data operations. The system will also facilitate Web-based ordering, integrate price plans across multiple digital wireless offerings and allow Nextel to introduce new services with greater speed.

Amdocs will also provide services to facilitate Nextel Partners' transition to the new system.

Nextel Partners chief information officer Mike Makowski said, "Amdocs was the clear choice for our customer care and billing system needs based on its proven ability to support iDEN technology and its success in helping Nextel Communications manage its billing solution implementation for its database of 8.7 million subscribers."

Amdocs Customer Care and Billing vice president Tom Clear said, "Amdocs’s solution provides the full accountability of Amdocs operations professionals and a proven record of service delivery. In collaboration with Amdocs, Nextel Partners will be positioned to be even more responsive to its changing customer needs, and intensify its focus on its expanding core business."

Amdocs shares closed on Monday at $22.10 on the New York Stock Exchange.
