Tecnomatix signs software deals worth $1 million with Comau

Comau is a worldwide manufacturer of welding systems for the automotive industry, and has been a Tecnomatix customer since the late 1980’s.

Tecnomatix Technologies (Nasdaq: TCNO) announced today that Comau, a worldwide manufacturer of welding systems for the automotive industry, would expand the use of Tecnomatix eMPower solutions throughout its organization.

Tecnomatix said the development was the culmination of a series of three agreements signed in the fourth quarter of 2001 and the first quarter of 2002, representing a total of $1 million worth of eMPower solutions and maintenance services. The software portion of the deal includes the eMPower CarBody and eM-Planner product suites and will add to eMPower manufacturing process management (MPM) solutions already in place.

Comau has been a Tecnomatix customer since the late 1980s, using eMPower solutions and services to design, simulate and offline-program spot-welding processes. Implementing Tecnomatix MPM solutions, such as the eMPower CarBody product suite, has helped Comau dramatically reduce time-to-market and cut development costs associated with the production of welding lines, Tecnomatix said.

In addition to its continued use of eMPower CarBody, Comau is now expanding its software licenses to include Tecnomatix eM-Planner to help shape and update the company's manufacturing process. eM-Planner enables planning and management of the manufacturing process for single operations, lines and entire plants. The solution helps users quickly evaluate manufacturing alternatives, coordinate resources, optimize throughput, plan for multiple variants, implement changes and estimate costs and cycle times - all in the early stages of concept planning.

Tecnomatix chairman and CEO Harel Beit-On said, “The automotive industry has always represented a major market segment for us. Our 10-year-plus relationship with Comau is a prime example of the trust that today's automotive leaders place in Tecnomatix and the tremendous impact our MPM solutions are having on the automotive industry.”

Comau chief information officer Franco Deregibus said, “We're always looking for new ways to improve the planning and design process to reduce our customers' overall processing time and costs. Our expanded contract with Tecnomatix reflects the tremendous return on investment we've gained from using their eMPower solution set in the past -- a valued return we look forward to continuing.''

Tecnomatix Technologies provides manufacturing process management software for the electronics, automotive, aerospace and heavy equipment industries. The company's eMPower software is designed to enable manufacturing customers to build the best production strategies to succeed in increasingly complex environments. The company, founded in 1983, has offices and distributors in North America, Europe, the Pacific Rim and Latin America.

Tecnomatix shares, which are listed on Nasdaq, closed on Monday at $13.10.
