Sainsbury's Supermarkets, Britain's second largest supermarket chain, part of J Sainsbury plc (LSE: SBRY), will carry Electric Fuel's (Nasdaq: EFCX) line of Instant Power chargers for cellphones in approximately 100 of its stores throughout the United Kingdom.
"We are very pleased to be offering this new product in our electrical range. We are always looking to broaden our offer to make Sainsbury's the complete shopping destination for our customers," commented Stephen Hughes, Sainsbury's Senior Electrical and Mobile phone buyer.
Electric Fuel's Instant Power Charger requires no electrical outlet and allows consumers to keep talking on their cellphones, even if their battery is dead. The pocket-sized device weighs less than three ounces and allows cellphones to be used and charged on the move. The Instant Power charger draws energy from its replaceable Power Cartridge and plugs directly into the mobile device. Each cartridge provides up to three charges and supports hours of talk time.
Electric Fuel President and CEO Yehuda Harats said, "Having a major supermarket chain distributing Instant Power is an important part of our 2002 sales initiative. Our recently announced Direct TV campaign, is aimed at increasing direct sales while also increasing sales through retail distribution. We anticipate Sainsbury's Instant Power sales will benefit from our TV campaign and the large traffic in its UK stores will help increase public awareness to the Instant Power line.
Sainsbury's Supermarkets, the UK's second biggest supermarket, was established in 1869. Sainsbury's Supermarkets serve over 10.8 million customers a week with 460 stores throughout the UK. The supermarket chain is part of J Sainsbury plc (LSE: SBRY), which also owns Shaw's Supermarkets and Star Supermarkets in the US. The Group's turnover in 2001 was GBP 18.4 billion (about USD 26.1 billion).
