Israel Shipyards in Greek Coast Guard patrol boat tender

The tender could be worth up to $100 million.

The Greek Coast Guard is expected to announce the winner of a large tender for new medium-sized patrol boats. Greece wants to buy three advanced patrol boats. The tender could be worth up to $100 million, based on a price of tens of millions of dollars per boat.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Israel Shipyards has offered the Saar 4 missile boat, which has been in service with the Israel Navy since 1972. Israel Shipyards is bidding against Fincantieri of Italy and Peene-Werft of Germany in the tender.

Minister of Transport Ephraim Sneh's recent talks with Greek defense officials in Athens helped Israel Shipyard's participation in the tender.

Israel Shipyards turnover was $40 million in 2001, including $25 million in deliveries to Israeli customers. The company has 200 employees and 150 sub-contractors. Its customers include the US Sixth Fleet, which operates in the eastern Mediterranean basin.
