Start-up Movious has received a NIS 3.3 million R&D grant from the Office of the Chief Scientist. Movious develops integrated mobile communications solutions for cellular operators and service providers.

The Chief Scientist’s research committee examined 42 applications for support in the communications field, amounting to NIS 154 million, and approved 26 programs costing NIS 77 million, including NIS 39 million in research grants.

Movious CEO Gustavo Gambach told “Globes” that the Chief Scientist grant would help the company speed up its development and penetrate the international market. He said Movious was currently focusing its marketing effort in Europe, and would next focus on the Far East. Movious aims to raise $10 million, and Gambach said the round would be completed in a few months.

Movious recently announced a cooperation agreement with Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq:SUNW) to jointly develop applications and content services management solutions for cellular companies. Partner Communications (Nasdaq: PTNRLSE:PCCD) was the first customer for the product, buying Movious’ operating system, cellular portal and mobile services management platform. The partnership’s business potential has been estimated at $10 million over the next two years.

Gambach said, “We are heavily involved in R&D for our MSS (Mobile Service Suite), and we’re now making final adaptations to the platform Partner bought.”

Movious was founded in 2000 by Gambach, VP R&D Nir Maman, director of professional services Ariel Lenger and director of business development Amir Harpaz. The company develops supply, billing and added value service management solutions for cellular operators and service providers. The company’s shareholders include Aura Investments, TelesensKSCL (XETRA:TLZG) of the Deutsche Telekom (NYSE:DT; XETRA:DTEG) group, and its founders.
