Israeli software security company Finjan Software has sold its products to a US security agency. The agency will buy 400,000 user licenses for Finjan’s SurfinShield software. The first stage of the deal has already been completed, and Finjan has already installed 100,000 systems. The deal is estimated at several million dollars.
SurfinGate and SurfinShield proactively defend an enterprises PCs from active content and malicious mobile code attacks. Finjan’s products also include McAfee Security anti-virus solutions. Blue Coat Systems (Nasdaq:BCSI) also recently began installing Finjan software in its solutions. The combined solution simultaneously supports scores of PCs at very large enterprises.
The US Patent Office also recently awarded Finjan its fourth patent for its code inspection technology used in its SurfinShield Corporate product. The patent further raises the threshold for the entry of competitors in the proactive security market.
IDC reports that Finjan is the global market leader in defense against malicious mobile code. Finjan’s solutions provide proactive defense for a company’s servers, e-mail servers and PCs. The company’s products, which have over 2 million users, close the enterprise window of vulnerability in which enterprises are attacked by unknown codes.
Founded in 1996, Finjan is based in Netanya and San Jose, and has 73 employees. Its main investors are Benchmark Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners and Israel Seed Partners.
