Comverse Technology(Nasdaq:CMVT) has won a tender for selling and installing a multimedia messaging service (MMS) at cellular operator Cellcom. The system will facilitate the broadcasting of video, images, animation, and text files to cell phones.
The contract is worth several hundred thousand dollars. Cellcom will launch the service on March 15. Comverse competed against Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERICY), CMC, Logica (XETRA: LOGA), and Openwave Systems (Nasdaq: OPWV).
Ericsson won the similar tender at Partner Communications (Nasdaq: PTNRLSE:PCCD), which is already operating its MMS system. One feature unique to MMS, which Partner has, is the ability to broadcast images from phone to phone, not just from a phone to the Internet.
